When you buy beauty products the label often will state that it is for people who have dry skin, oily skin, combination, mature or normal skin.
You would be surprised how many of us do not know which skin type we are, therefore we can often end up buying and using the wrong product.
In this article we will give you the basics of the different types of skin type there are so you can decide for yourself which one you think you are.
What are the 6 different skin types?
Generally speaking there are 6 skin types:
- Normal skin type – If you have normal skin your pores will be smallish, your skin will have elasticity and the tone, pigmentation and appearance will be even
- Combination skin type – If you have this skin type your pores will be larger and you will have shiny areas on your face as well as dryer areas. The oilier areas will generally be around your T-zone. The texture of your skin around the T-zone will be thicker. You will also be susceptible to spots and blemishes
- Oily skin type – If you have oily skin it will appear shiny. The pores are bigger and this skin is prone to acne.
- Dry skin type – If you have dry skin it will appear flaky and feel tight. This skin has less elasticity, a rough texture and you can see fine lines and wrinkles.
- Sensitive skin type – This skin will react to most things that normal skin will not. This skin is delicate, attacked easily by microorganisms and needs care and attention. If you have this skin you may feel tightness, itchiness, soreness and redness of the skin.
- Mature skin type – Mature or aged skin is generally speaking the skin of anyone aged 40 years or over. The skin has started to thin, it is more fragile and needs to be treated with a gentle touch. This skin like all skin types should not be pulled or rubbed.
What determines your skin type?
The skin type you have is determined by your genetics. On top of this your environment and lifestyle also play a part.
What is the T zone on your face?
The T zone is the area on your face that comprises your forehead, nose and chin. These three parts of your face together form the capital T.
