What is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented sugared tea which has been consumed for thousands of years.

It is made from tea (green or black), sugar, yeast and healthy bacteria. It can also be a little carbonated.

It has a tang to it or better described as slightly vinegary.

Kombucha should be drunk as part of your diet and not as a replacement for normal meals.

Why is drinking Kombucha good for you?

Kombucha is rich in probiotics so is very good for your gut health. It is also a good source of antioxidants. It helps with conditions such as cancer, arthritis and diabetes. 

Kombucha can help reduce heart disease and inflammation. It can help boost your immune system.

How long does the fermenting process take?

The fermenting process can take anything from 1 week to 1 month.

Is alcohol produced during fermentation?

Kombucha may contain a little alcohol (approximately 0.5%) but it is not labelled as an alcoholic drink due to the level being so low.

Are there any side effects of drinking Kombucha?

Too much kombucha can cause nausea, ketoacidosis (too much acid in the body) and headaches.

How much kombucha it is advisable to drink?

You can consume about 4 oz of kombucha per day.

Who should avoid kombucha?

Children, pregnant women and people with a weak immune system.
