Your Statement Of Issues Explained
(With Template)

Also occasionally referred to as a problem statement

WHEN IS YOUR STATEMENT OF ISSUES ASKED FOR?

Once you or your ex-partner has submitted form A to start the court proceedings for division of assets, finances, and pensions, the court handling this will contact you and your ex-partner by letter. This letter will inform you of the date and time of the first appointment/court hearing called the first directions appointment (FDA). In the same letter, the court will ask both you and your ex-partner to send 5 documents to the court and to each other or each others solicitors by a certain date and time. One of these 5 documents is YOUR STATEMENT OF ISSUES. The other 4 documents are form E, a chronology, a questionnaire for the other party, and a form G.

WHAT IS YOUR STATEMENT OF ISSUES USED FOR?

Your statement of issues should be a concise document of 1-2 pages detailing the principal issues, the matters on which you and your ex-partner disagree/are in dispute, and the position taken by each of you on each matter. This will help the judge at the first directions appointment (FDA) to understand what are the main points of contention between you and your ex-partner

YOU CAN USE OUR I AM LIP TEMPLATE

You will need to produce your own statement of issues as it is not a government form.

The team here at I AM L.I.P have produced a statement of issues template for you to download and fill in. Once you have filled in it you can print a hard copy. Click on the upper right corner of the document below to access it. Once accessed, we recommend you click the ‘Open Original’ button on the upper right corner to download the document on Microsoft Word, or you can download the document on other applications such as Google Docs. The BLACK writing is part of the template document and should not be altered. The RED writing is where you should edit the template document as it is there to guide you on what to include.
