Notice of change form to let the court know your legal representative has changed
WHAT IS FORM N434 USED FOR?
Form N434 is also called a ‘Notice of Acting’ or ‘Notice of Change’ form. By filling in this form, you are telling the court that you have a new legal representative, you’ve changed your legal representative, your legal representative is no longer representing you and you are now representing yourself.

WHAT IS THE FEE TO SEND FORM N434 TO THE COURT AND HOW TO PAY FOR IT?
This form is free to send to the court.
HOW TO COMPLETE FORM N434 AND WHERE TO SEND IT.
- NOTE 1 – If you are the ex-partner that has submitted form A and started court proceedings for a financial settlement or submitted form C100 and started court proceedings for child arrangements then you are called the applicant. The other ex-partner is known as the respondent.
- NOTE 2 – You can complete form N434 online and then print a hard copy. Alternatively you can download it, print it and then complete by black pen.
- NOTE -3 Please send a copy of your form N434 to the court and to your ex-partner or their solicitor. If your solicitor is completing this form for you then they will send this form to the court and to your ex-partner for you.
- NOTE 4 – Please keep a copy of your form N434 for yourself outside of the one you send to the family court.
- Form N434 is 1 page long.
- In the top right hand corner box, write the name of the court where your case is being heard and your case number. If you are the applicant please write your name in the ‘claimant’ box and your ex-partners/respondents name in the ‘defendant’ box.
- Please tick box A – if your solicitor (legal representative) is no longer acting for you and you are now a litigant in person (a person who is involved in court proceedings and is not represented by a solicitor or barrister). You must write the name and address of this outgoing/previous solicitor in the box provided.
- Please tick box B – if you have changed solicitor (legal representative). Write the name and address of your new solicitor in the first box and the name and address of your outgoing/previous solicitor in the second box.
- The original completed form N434 must be sent to the court whilst copies of the form must also be sent to your ex-partner or their solicitor, anybody else involved in your case, and to your previous legal representative. If you have done this please tick box C.
- Form N434 will next ask you to write the address/your address to which correspondence should be sent. Please also write your email address in the space provided then date and sign the form.
- Send or email your form to the court where your case is being heard.
