What can you do about your eye bags and dark circles around your eyes?

There are many things you can do to improve the appearance of the skin around your eyes. It is important to first understand what is causing the eyes bags and dark circles. To determine this we suggest you make an appointment with your GP, medical practitioner, therapist or beautician and talk to them. From here you can then discover what would help you. Often it is a combination of a few of the things listed below that will help.

  1. Try and get more sleep – This is easier said than done but you must try and leave your worries around the bedroom door and get sleep.
  2. Drink water throughout the day – Keep yourself hydrated so your skin feels plump and juicy.
  3. Try a cold press – You can wrap a tea towel around a small bag of ice and place it under your eyes for 20 – 30 minutes. This may help you reduce the dark circles around your eyes.
  4. Use makeup – You can use a concealer to hide the dark circles under your eyes.
  5. Use eye creams – A good eye cream will moisturise the skin around your eyes keeping the skin soft and supple.
  6. Chilled cucumber – You can place thin slices of chilled cucumber over your eyes for about 10 minutes.
  7. Improve your nutritional intake by taking a supplement – Visit your GP and ask for a blood test to show which nutrients you are deficient in and then take a supplement to improve the level of this nutrient in your body. This could help improve the condition of your skin around your eyes.
  8. Reduce your intake of alcohol and the amount you smoke – This will help your overall health and could lead to a reduction of eye bags and dark circles.
  9. Apply chilled used tea bags over your eyes – The antioxidants in the tea bags will improve the blood flow to the skin around your eyes resulting in a better appearance. Apply the tea bags for 20 minutes.
  10. Use a retinol rich serum, cream or lotion – A retinol rich face product can improve the collagen content in the skin around your eyes thus reducing eye bags.
  11. Use sunscreen and protect your skin from the weather – If you apply sunscreen on your face, especially around your eyes it will protect your skin from the sun. Try and avoid a tanning bed and in the winter try and protect your skin directly from the cold weather so the delicate skin around your eyes is protected.
  12. Completely remove eye make up before your sleep – Make up left on your face especially around your eyes can clog your pores and make the skin around your eyes older, dryer and duller. This can lead to dark circles and eye bags around your eyes.
