I am a Litigant In Person

Go through the Court Process

If you and your ex-partner cannot find agreement on child arrangements and the division of your marital assets, finances and pensions then the only option left for both of you is to go through the court process and let them help or decide for you. Here, both of you can hire solicitors to communicate with each other then have barristers to argue your case in front of a judge until an agreement is reached or a judge makes a decision.  This is called a litigated divorce and is very expensive, long, and is traumatic for all concerned.

Since the UK law changed on legal aid and less people are eligible, more people are now going to court as litigants in person (a person who is involved in court proceedings and is not represented by a solicitor or barrister). This is not easy to do. It can be very traumatising, if you do not know what you are up against, and time consuming.

Our Help Guide 3 will take you through the court process of sorting out your divorce paperwork.
