Litigant Foodies – Guide To Make An Indian Cup Of Tea

Tea is without a doubt India’s national drink; however, it is also nearly everyone’s favourite drink. The Hindi (the national language of India) word for tea is chai and masala chai is what is drunk across India from dusk to dawn. 

Masala chai is spicy tea which is slow cooked allowing the spices to seep into the water and combine with the milk and sugar. 

Masala chai contain antioxidants, biotin, and minerals for good health

Here’s a step by step guide to make an Indian masala chai.

STEP 1 – Pour cold water in a pan and start to heat (3/4 mug of water per person). 

STEP 2 – Add some warm spices (2 cloves per person, 2 cardamoms per person, a small stick of cinnamon per person and half a teaspoon of grated fresh ginger per person)

STEP 3 – Once the water starts to boil add a tea bag or some loose tea leaves (1 tea bag per person or 1 teaspoon of tea leaves per person) 

STEP 4 – Add sugar to the pan (the amount according to who is drinking it)

STEP 5 – Gently continue to simmer the tea.

STEP 6 – Add milk to the pan (the amount according to who is drinking it)

STEP 7 – Continue to gently simmer the tea. Then strain the tea into mugs or cups.

STEP 8 – Serve with a smile.
