Homemade Body Scrubs

Scrubs are used for the exfoliation of the skin. Scrubs contain coarse ingredients such as sugar or salt (as well as oils, essential oils, and creams) that will help remove dead cells from the outer layer of the skin. This will allow new brighter and smoother skin to surface.

Exfoliating with scrubs will reduce the occurrence of acne, remove dry skin, increase blood circulation to the skin, will draw out impurities from the skin, clear congestion, hydrate skin, moisturise skin, free ingrown hairs, and reduce razor bumps.

How often is it safe to use a body scrub?

You can exfoliate your skin once a week to stop dead cells from accumulating.

When should you avoid using a body scrub?

If you have sunburnt skin, rashes, broken skin, or chapped skin you should not use body scrubs. If your skin is recovering from a chemical peel again you should not also use a body scrub.

How do you use a body scrub?

  1. The best place to use a body scrub is in the shower when your skin is wet.
  2. Apply your scrub onto your skin and gently massage in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse your body with warm water.
  4. Gently dab your skin dry with a soft towel.

You can also apply a body scrub after a 20 minute bath/soak. Gently massage the scrub on your skin in circular motion for a few minutes. Rinse in a shower with warm water.

Can you store a homemade body scrub?

Yes you can. You can store any extra scrub you have not used in an airtight glass jar kept in the refrigerator. You should use the scrub within the month.
